Yercaud Meaning “Lake Forest” is a popular hill station located in the Eastern Ghats. It is one of the ideal places to gain knowledge about various species of plants. Yercaud is known for Kurinji flowers, plenty of which can be seen in this garden. The speciality of this flower is that it blossoms once in twelve years.The National Orchidarium, housed within the Botanical Garden, is located at a distance of 2 km from the Emerald Lake. This orchidarium houses a wide assortment of orchids, which includes 30 species of exclusively found orchid. In addition, the orchidarium also features several endangered species of orchids, which are preserved here. Owing to this fact, the place is ranked third largest of all the orchidarium in India. Vernonia shevaroyensis and lady’s slipper orchid are some of the other species of orchids displayed in this orchidarium.
Pagoda Point :
Located on the eastern part of Yercaud Hills, is also known as Pyramid Point. This point has derived its name from four piles of stones that form a pyramid shape and are believed to be constructed by the local tribes.There is a temple located at this place between the piles, which is dedicated to Lord Rama. Tourists can enjoy beautiful views of the town of Salem along with a village known as Kakambadi.
Located at a distance of 3 km from the Yercaud Lake, is one of the most beautiful waterfalls.From a height of 300 ft, the water of Yercaud Lake along with the water from Shevaroy Hills falls into the Killiyur valley.
